
Panaji: Goa police deployed 40 police personnel, ranging from the level of police sub-inspector (PSI) to constable, to protect doctors at Goa Medical College (GMC) from any untoward incident.After health minister Vishwajit Rane abused a doctor at the casualty department, doctors had demanded that police personnel be deployed at the GMC.Goa police has deployed a total of 40 personnel at the GMC and the super speciality block. A senior police officer said they identified four guard points at casualty, the dean’s cabin, the super speciality block and the ICU.A senior officer said that each guard point would î –consist of four police personnel, including one head constable and three constables. Besides, police will be deployed at the outpost at GMC, where they register medico-legal cases.The officer said that there will be one PSI on round-the-clock duty at the GMC. One PSI each, attached to Old Goa, Panaji and Agasaim police stations, was withdrawn to be deployed at the GMC. Each PSI will be attached for seven days at the GMC.Goa police has assigned 19 Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) constables to the GMC outpost. The outpost at the GMC comes under Agasaim police station.
