
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday (October 1) said the Union Cabinet has approved 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) across 17 states and union territories with an investment of ₹5,863 crore over a period of nine years from 2026-27. This includes the capital expenditure component of ₹2,585.52 crore (approx.) and operational expenditure of ₹3,277.03 crore (approx.).
The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vaishnaw said 20 KVs are proposed to be opened in districts where no KV presently exists. And 14 KVs are proposed in aspirational districts, 4 KVs in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas districts, and 5 KVs in the northeast region or hilly areas.
The Minister said 87,000 students would benefit from this decision. It would create 4,600 additional teaching posts.
At present, there are 1,288 KVs providing education to 14 lakh students. Three KVs are functioning abroad in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran.
