Thakur, who was here to perform at the Narmada Mahotsav, also spoke about her preferred assembly constituency. She said, “There hasn’t been any official announcement yet, but I would like to go to my village area because I have a special connection with it.”
“Starting from there will also give me a chance to learn. Meeting people, talking to them…I will understand more if I start from my village,” the singer said.
In response to another question about the Bihar assembly elections, Thakur stated that she is willing to contribute in whatever way possible to the country’s progress.
Recently, she met BJP national general secretary and Bihar organisation in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union minister Nityanand Rai, which sparked speculation that she may contest the upcoming
Bihar Assembly elections. Thakur stated that they talked about a variety of topics pertaining to Bihar’s future during their discussion.
On Sunday, Tawde also shared photos on X of their meeting, saying that the singer and her family had left Bihar in 1995 during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure. He added that the ‘daughter’ now wants to return after witnessing the state’s progress.
“Today, Union Minister of State for Home @nityanandraibjp ji and I urged her that for the people of Bihar and for the development of Bihar, her contribution is expected by the common man of Bihar and that she fulfil their expectations. Best wishes to Bihar’s daughter Maithili Thakur ji!” he wrote.

Thakur, who was born in Benipatti, Bihar’s Madhubani district, to a Maithili musician father, gained a name for herself in music when she was 11 years old in 2011 and has been active ever since.
Vinod Narayan Jha, a BJP leader and former minister, currently represents Benipatti in the Bihar Assembly.
In 2020, the 68-year-old BJP leader defeated Congress candidate Bhavana Jha by over 30,000 votes in this Brahmin-dominated seat.
Bihar’s assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 6 and 11, with votes counted on November 14.
