
In a statement, Vijay said that people have supported the party in the last month, while apparently referring to the fatal stampede during the party’s September 27 rally.
As per PTI, Vijay noted that their “enemies desiring to conquer us by conspiracies know this”.
Claiming that the situation on the ground is “favourable to us,” Vijay said they need to take the next steps cautiously.
The special session will be convened at a private hotel in Mahabalipuram. The party has officially announced to contest the next Assembly elections in the southern state.
Karur stampede: What to know?
As many as 41 people died and around 50 others got injured in a stampede at Vijay’s political rally in Karur on September 27.
A large number of supporters had gathered at the event, which was supposed to host about 10,000-15,000 people.
Vijay is believed to have arrived late by almost seven hours at the venue, while the gathering continued to grow. Several people present there later complained about the lack of water and sanitation facilities.
Vijay opens up about the incident
The superstar released a video statement three days after the Karur stampede and alleged that whatever happened at the event was not his fault.
He called the incident the ‘most painful moment’ of his life, adding that his ‘’heart is full of grief’.
Supreme Court orders CBI probe
On October 13, the top court ordered a CBI investigation into the matter and said the incident shook the national conscience.
The apex court ordered that the matter deserves a fair and impartial investigation.
In this regard, a three-member supervisory committee has been set to monitor the CBI investigation. It will be headed by Supreme Court former judge Ajay Rastogi.
Further, it suspended the directions to appoint the SIT as well as a one-man enquiry commission. Tamil Nadu has been asked to extend full cooperation to the central agency in the matter.
Vijay meets victims’ families
On October 27, Vijay met the family members of Karur victims in Mahabalipuram and sought their forgiveness for the incident.
In total, 37 families were brought in from Karur at the resort where the party booked nearly 50 rooms, TVK sources told PTI.
