Reports said DMK started seat-sharing talks with allies and Congress leader KC Venugopal on February 22. DMK chief and Chief Minister Stalin called allies at his Alwarpet residence in Chennai, news agency PTI reported.
The report said Venugopal told Stalin about Congress’s expectations and the constituencies it wished to contest in the 45-minute meeting.
In another round of meetings, Congress’s Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar and Pradesh Congress Committee chief K Selvaperunthagai met DMK’s parliamentary party chief Kanimozhi on February 23.
The DMK wants to stick to the 2021 Assembly poll formulae, when Congress contested on 25 seats. However, the Congress is demanding 45 seats based on a review of the 2021 election results. The party had won 18 of the 25 seats it contested.
In the 2021 state polls, the DMK contested 173 seats and won 40 constituencies.
The talks between Stalin and Venugopal followed a recent meeting between DMK leader Kanimozhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi over seat sharing.
The DMK leads the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu, and its constituents include the Congress, the DMDK, Left parties, and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.
