Speciality chemicals maker Balaji Amines Ltd on Thursday (March 12) said some of its plants have become non-operational due to disruptions in the supply of ammonia, a key raw material, following logistics and supply chain problems linked to the ongoing war in West Asia.
The company said the conflict has significantly disrupted global shipping lines, logistics networks and supply chains. As a result, certain key suppliers of raw materials have invoked the force majeure clause.
The disruption has affected the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is used for the production of ammonia by most fertiliser manufacturers in India. Several ammonia manufacturers have expressed their inability to supply the product during this period due to force majeure conditions.

Balaji Amines said the situation has created significant logistics disruptions in the procurement of ammonia, which is used in the manufacture of methylamines, ethylamines and their derivatives.
Due to the non-availability of ammonia, some of the company’s plants are currently non-operational, it said in a regulatory filing. The company added that the financial and operational impact of the shortage of the key raw material cannot be estimated at this point.
“The company is closely monitoring the developments and is in continuous discussions with its key suppliers to explore possible alternatives for securing the supply of ammonia. The company shall keep the stock exchanges informed of any further material developments in this regard,” it added.
