Under the new scheme, two daughters from every family residing in Delhi will be eligible for enhanced benefits, with the maturity payout substantially increased, the Delhi CM announced in a briefing.
Earlier, beneficiaries under the Ladli framework received cumulative benefits totalling ₹36,000; the revised scheme raises this to ₹56,000, with a minimum maturity amount of ₹1 lakh upon graduation. The Chief Minister stated that the financial support will be disbursed only after the daughter completes her college degree.
A key feature of the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is conditionality. Gupta stated that the benefits will be subject to conditions such as mandatory vaccination and regular schooling.
Importantly, if a beneficiary is married before the age of 18, she will be disqualified from availing of the scheme’s benefit, aiming to incentivise education and delay early marriage.
The Ladli scheme is modelled on similar government initiatives across states that encourage girls’ education and financial inclusion, provided staged financial support tied to educational milestones.
The chief criticism remains implementation gaps, including unclaimed funds and missed beneficiaries.
The welfare rollout accompanies other flagship measures, including the introduction of Pink Smart Cards for free women’s transit and the flag-off of 500 electric buses, as the Delhi administration highlights its first-year achievements.
