India’s looming skills crisis requires urgent action. Economist Dr Shamika Ravi, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, recently highlighted a major gap in the job market — the problem of high graduate unemployment in India, even as companies struggle to find skilled manpower. “Historically we’ve been giving out degrees, but the industry, market and a growing economy like India need skills,” Dr Ravi observed at an event in Bangalore.
