
Several prestigious Indian educational institutions, including IITs and Delhi University, have found a place among the top 100 in Asia. The report, prepared by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds overall features more than 1,500 academic institutions. In the rankings, the University of Hong Kong has grabbed the top position in Asia, followed by Peking University in second place. India’s representation in the QS Asia rankings has significantly improved from 24 institutions in 2016 to 294 in the latest report. As per the rankings, seven universities in the country are placed in the top 100, 20 in the top 200 and 66 in the top 500. The University of Hong Kong | With an overall score of 100, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has emerged as the best among educational institutions in Asia. It is the first and oldest institution of higher education in Hong Kong, which was founded in 1911. Peking University | Peking University is the oldest higher education institution in China, founded in 1898. The university, with a score of 99.9, secured second spot in Asia in the ranking. It is a comprehensive university with 30 colleges and 12 departments, offering a wide range of programs. Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore (NUS) | Nanyang Technological University (NTU) secured third place in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, tied with the National University of Singapore (NUS). Fudan University | Established in 1905 as Fudan Public School, Fudan University, China, retains its 5th rank in Asia. The university has four campuses (Handan, Fenglin, Jiangwan, and Zhangjiang) spread across approximately 2.5 million square meters. It offers education in 11 broad subject areas across 35 schools and departments. 7 Indian institutions among top 100 | According to the QS University Rankings, five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and Delhi University, have figured in Asia’s top 100 institutions. IIT Delhi, which ranked 59 this year, has retained its position as India’s top-ranked institution for the fifth consecutive year.
