The formal announcement of the alliance came on Friday from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who confirmed that Palaniswami would lead the NDA coalition in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections at the state level, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national helm.
“At this pivotal moment, with the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AIADMK will work closely with NDA allies to realise the aspirations of the people and contribute to his transformative vision,” Palaniswami wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The AIADMK general secretary also took a veiled jab at the ruling DMK and its leader, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
I extend my gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for his unwavering support to @AIADMKOfficial .
We are honoured to be welcomed into a partnership with NDA . An alliance founded on a shared vision for Tamil Nadu’s progress and prosperity.

“Together, we are committed to building a greater Tamil Nadu—one free from dynastic politics, corruption, and misgovernance,” he added.
AIADMK had severed ties with the BJP in September 2023, citing repeated criticism of its senior leaders by K. Annamalai, then the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit chief.
The reunion comes shortly after the BJP announced Nainar Nagendran as Annamalai’s successor. The move prompted speculations that Annamalai’s exit was orchestrated to clear the path for a renewed alliance.
Amit Shah, however, dismissed such claims. Speaking at the press conference alongside both Palaniswami and Annamalai, he said: “This is not true at all. Annamalai is the state president even today, and that is why he is sitting with me.”
