Futures linked to the Dow Jones surged as much as 350 points, while those tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq surged 45 points and 190 points respectively. According to a report in the New York Times citing two unnamed officials, the US has sent a 15-point plan to end the war. It remains unclear as to how widely the plan, reportedly delivered through Pakistan, has been circulated among officials in Iran.
What also remains unclear, as per the report, is whether Israel, part of the operations in Iran along with the US, will support the plan. US President Donald Trump had earlier told reporters that there were like 15 points of agreement between the US and Iran, and keeping Iran from getting a nuclear weapon was number one, two and three on that list, as per the President.
Trump also said that Tehran is eager to make a peace deal, despite Iran’s denial that no formal talks with Washington are currently ongoing.
“They are talking to us and they are talking sense,” Trump said when asked to explain his five-day window to not attack Iran’s energy infrastructure. He went on to say that multiple US officials are involved in the negotiations, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He had earlier named US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, as those being involved in the negotiations.
On the flip side, the Wall Street Journal has reported that the Pentagon is readying plans to deploy about 3,000 soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to West Asia.
“All announcements regarding troop deployments will come from the Department of War. As we have said, President Trump always has all military options at his disposal,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told CNBC when asked about that report.
Later on Tuesday evening, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote on “X” that Pakistan is willing to facilitate talks between the two countries, a post later screenshotted and shared by Trump on his Truth Social.
