The company has cut around 30,000 jobs globally, about 18% of its workforce, as part of the restructuring, news agency ANI reported.
The emails, sent from “Oracle Leadership,” chaired by billionaire Larry Ellison, arrived without prior warning. Staff were informed in early-morning emails that Tuesday would be their last working day.
“After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organisational change,” copies of the email viewed by Business Insider read.
“As a result, today is your last working day. … Thank you for your contributions to our organisation.” The company told affected staff that once they signed their termination paperwork, they would be “eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.”
The company had nearly 1.62 lakh full-time employees in May 2025, as per its annual filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Another round of job cuts could take place within the next month, news agency PTI reported, citing employees.
Termination emails were shared on Reddit’s employeesOfOracle group.
One post said their father was laid off after 20 years at Oracle, reportedly two years before retirement. “Not even a phone call. The companies are evil.”
Another said their job had been terminated and their access was “revoked immediately.”
“They created widespread fear, frustration, and uncertainty among all employees, not just those directly impacted by the RIF,” someone wrote.
“From a financial perspective, the approach seems inefficient, offering significant severance packages while continuing to hire new employees,” a comment read.
These layoffs come as Oracle balances aggressive growth in artificial intelligence with strict cost-cutting measures. Despite a $50 billion debt raise to support its infrastructure, the company is under pressure to manage high spending on data centres.
Earlier this month, Oracle executives reassured investors that the firm remains “very, very good” at cutting costs, even as it pursues “Stargate,” a $500 billion project with OpenAI.
The layoffs are believed to have affected parts of Oracle’s computing business across regions, including India and Mexico. Oracle has yet to issue an official confirmation.
