
COIMBATORE: Three prisoners in the Coimbatore Central Prison were booked for assaulting an inmate and pouring hot tea on him on Tuesday.The victim, K Sahadevan, 33, of Devakottai in Sivaganga district, was recently transferred to the Coimbatore prison from a Tirupur jail following a court order. According to prison sources, one of the accused, Partha alias Chiranjeevi, who had also previously been lodged in the Tirupur jail, reportedly had a prior enmity with Sahadevan. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. As Sahadevan approached to collect his tea, Chiranjeevi allegedly confronted him over their past dispute in the Tirupur jail. The argument quickly turned violent, and Chiranjeevi, along with two associates identified as Kannan and Riyaz, allegedly attacked him.When prison warders rushed in to intervene, Chiranjeevi allegedly grabbed a tumbler of boiling tea and poured it on Sahadevan’s face. The warders brought the situation under control and sent Sahadevan to prison hospital for treatment. Based on a complaint filed by Sahadevan, the Race Course police registered a case against the trio.
