
Welfare schemes, healthcare, employment generation, and infrastructure development have emerged as the central themes, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle.
Voting in the 2026 Kerala elections will take place in a single-phase on April 9. The results will be declared on May 4.
Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: What the LDF Manifesto Promises
Led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the ruling LDF has focused on continuity and governance in its manifesto. It has promised ₹3,000 pensions, support for five lakh families, and expanded welfare measures for senior citizens. The alliance has also highlighted its focus on employment generation, skill development, and increasing women’s participation in the workforce.
On the economic front, the LDF aims to attract investments worth ₹2 lakh crore, modernise public sector units, and develop industrial corridors and innovation hubs. It has also set a target of attracting five crore domestic tourists by 2031, alongside expanding metro networks and waterways.
Kerala Assembly Elections 2026: UDF Roadmap
The Congress-led UDF has positioned its manifesto around what it calls ‘Indira Guarantees,’ promising welfare with accountability. Key proposals include free bus travel for women, monthly pensions of ₹3,000, free health insurance, and interest-free loans for young entrepreneurs. The alliance has framed welfare as a right rather than a benefit, and is backed by governance reforms.
Beyond welfare, the UDF has outlined economic initiatives such as ‘Mission Samudra’ to boost a port-led economy and the creation of 10,000 high-value enterprises.
Social welfare proposals include subsidised canteens under Indira Canteens, housing support for five lakh beneficiaries under the Nava Ashraya scheme, and free dialysis services for BPL patients. The alliance has also proposed a ‘Ministry of Tolerance’ aimed at addressing communal harmony.
NDA Pushes Welfare Alongside Infrastructure Growth
The BJP-led NDA has focused on a mix of welfare and large-scale infrastructure development. Its manifesto promises ₹3,000 pensions for women heads of households and senior citizens, free LPG cylinders, Bhakshya Arogya Suraksha Card for the buying of groceries and medicines and free water supply up to 20,000 litres per household.
On healthcare, the NDA has proposed establishing an AIIMS and expanding coverage under Ayushman Bharat.
In addition, the NDA has laid out plans for major infrastructure projects, including a high-speed rail corridor, metro expansion, and the development of the Vizhinjam port as an industrial hub
. The alliance has also proposed sector-specific hubs, such as IT in Thiruvananthapuram, shipbuilding in Kochi, and defence innovation in Kannur, alongside reforms in the management of key religious institutions.
