
Polling is being conducted for the 126-member Assembly in Assam, the 140-member Assembly in Keralam and the 30-seat Assembly in Puducherry.
The prime minister issued separate messages on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in multiple languages, including English as well as the regional languages of the respective regions — Assamese, Malayalam and Tamil.
In his message addressing voters in Assam, Modi encouraged citizens to treat the election as a celebration of democracy and public responsibility.
“As polling begins for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, I appeal to the people of Assam to exercise their franchise in large numbers. I hope that the state’s youth and women voters participate enthusiastically and make this election a celebration of democracy and public duty,” he said in a post on X.

Special appeal to youth and women
The prime minister also made a similar appeal to voters in Kerala, highlighting the importance of strong voter participation in strengthening the state’s democratic spirit.
“I particularly request the youth and women of the state to step forward and vote in large numbers,” PM Modi said.
In another message, Modi urged citizens in Puducherry to participate actively in the electoral process and emphasised the importance of every vote in shaping the future of the Union Territory.
“I especially appeal to our youth and to women voters to strengthen the process of democracy. Every vote matters in shaping the future of Puducherry,” he said.
Assembly polls 2026 underwayÂ
The Puducherry Legislative Assembly consists of 30 elected members, in addition to three members nominated by the central government. Voting across the three regions is taking place amid tight security and election monitoring.

The results of these elections are expected to play a crucial role in determining the political direction of the two states and the Union Territory.
