Longest-Serving CM Steps Down
The 75-year-old Janata Dal (United) leader is the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar. His resignation comes just days after he became a Rajya Sabha MP.
Kumar was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, JD(U) national working president Sanjay Jha, and state minister Vijay Choudhary when he went to submit his resignation.
He added that the new government will take charge soon and assured his support going forward.
“The new government will have my full cooperation and guidance,” he said.
Samrat Choudhary Likely Next CM
Following Kumar’s resignation, BJP leader Samrat Choudhary is set to become the next chief minister of Bihar.
According to media reports, Choudhary has been elected as the BJP legislature party leader and is expected to stake a claim to form the government at Lok Bhavan.
Sources indicated that he is likely to take oath as chief minister on Wednesday, April 15, at 11 am, which would make him the first BJP leader to hold the top post in the state.
What Happens Next
With Kumar stepping down, Bihar is set to see a leadership change. The focus now shifts to the formation of the new government under the BJP leadership.
Political developments are expected to move quickly, with the swearing-in ceremony likely within a day.
