The order pertains to the planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and annual maintenance of a 4G mobile network at 18,685 sites across the country, TCS said in a stock exchange filing.
This large-scale project marks a significant expansion in BSNL’s 4G rollout efforts, with TCS playing a key role in its execution.
The company announced that detailed purchase orders will be issued by BSNL in due course, contingent upon the fulfilment of certain conditions and documentation as outlined in the APO.
This latest order adds to TCS’s ongoing engagement with BSNL in modernising the state-run telecom operator’s mobile infrastructure.
In an interaction with CNBC-TV18 post their March quarter results, TCS CFO Samir Seksaria had mentioned that 70% of the work on the BSNL order has been completed and that this order will run-off between the fourth quarter of financial year 2025 and the first quarter of financial year 2026.
Soon after TCS’ announcement, another Tata Group company, Tejas Networks informed the exchanges that it received a work order from TCS for the supply of goods and services for BSNL’s 4G project.
The expected value of supplies from Tejas to TCS for Radio Access Network (RAN) and related equipment is approximately ₹1,525.53 crore, exclusive of taxes.
Tejas Networks stated that detailed Purchase Orders will be issued by TCS in due course, subject to the fulfilment of specific conditions and necessary documentation.
In May, BSNL had issued an Advance Purchase Order worth over ₹15,000 crore to a consortium led by TCS for the nationwide rollout of its 4G network.
As part of the consortium, Tejas Networks Ltd. and ITI Ltd. also received APOs for the project. Tejas Networks will be responsible for supplying and servicing the Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment to BSNL.
This followed an earlier contract awarded by BSNL to TCS in April, valued at ₹550 crore, for setting up 6,000 4G sites across the country.
BSNL aims to deploy approximately 1.12 lakh 4G sites as part of its pan-India service rollout, according to telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s statement in the Lok Sabha.
Shares of TCS have risen to the highs of the day, currently trading 0.8% higher at ₹3,525.7, while those of Tejas Networks have gained 2.8% to ₹744.05 post the order announcement.
