Known for its over 700 stores across India, Vishal Mega Mart recently conducted a large-scale hiring drive for thousands of security officers around the country. The retail chain’s hiring drive sparked a viral trend, with netizens jokingly comparing the recruitment process to India’s toughest exams like UPSC and IIT-JEE. What piqued people’s interest was the job listing that included a written exam covering current affairs, English and local languages as well as physical training and medical checks — and a preference for applicants with experience, martial arts expertise, or shooting training.
According to job portals like AmbitionBox and Glassdoor, the job offers a salary ranging from ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 per month, along with medical benefits, provident fund and staff discounts.
On X, a user claimed the company conducted an entrance exam for its security guard services, and it featured questions on current affairs, English, and the local language. “Students from not only the local area but also from across the state participated in the test; however, only the top 1% qualified, making it more challenging to pass than most exams,” it added.
