As per a News18 report, PM Modi
is expected to use the platform to highlight BJP-led women’s welfare initiatives, particularly in MP. He is also likely to reassure women voters amid a string of controversial statements from party leaders in recent weeks.
The Maha Mahila Sammelan comes only days after a video showing Manohalal Dhakad, a BJP leader, in a compromising situation on a highway went viral. He was arrested and then released on bail within 24 hours.
Another BJP leader, Amar Kishor Kashyap, received a notice from the party leadership after CCTV footage showed him indulging in ‘inappropriate’ behaviour with a woman.
Babban Singh Raghuvanshi, another leader, was sacked from the party after a clip showed him with a dancer at a public event.
In another instance from Karnataka, a police report was filed against BJP MLA Munirathna after a 40-year-old woman accused him of gang rape and physical assault.
The BJP, according to the News18 report, is now banking on PM Modi’s popularity and the symbolic significance of Ahilyabai Holkar—the 18th-century woman ruler—to reclaim lost ground. As part of the event, PM Modi will be releasing a commemorative postage stamp and coin dedicated to her legacy.
The programme will serve as a symbol of women’s emancipation and independence, MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav told PTI.
There will be stalls showcasing innovations by women-led self-help groups, startups, and government schemes which back female entrepreneurship and employment.
The women will lead the logistical efforts, from stage management and security to media and crowd control, presenting what officials call a ‘live example of empowerment’, the state government said.
The district BJP units have been told to make sure that each mandal brings at least 20 women to the event. The party’s women’s wing and more than 1,000 women workers are busy getting everything ready, with planning meetings happening right now.
Everyone is looking forward to Modi’s speech, which should send a clear political message to both voters and party members.
