
1) The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US | MIT is at the top spot for the 14th year in a row. Established in 1861, MIT offers a wide range of programs across various fields of study, including science, engineering, humanities, and social sciences and boasts of alumni like physicist Richard Feynman and linguist Noam Chomsky.
2) Imperial College London, London | Ranked second best in the world and first in Europe, the university offers courses in science, technology, engineering, medicine and business (STEMB). Founded in 1907, graduates and lecturers at the college include 14 Nobel Prize winners, 74 Fellows of the Royal Society, 84 Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
3) Stanford University, US | The California-based university has climbed three spots this year to be ranked the third best institute. It provides a wide range of courses across seven schools on its campus. The university also home to 36 Nobel Prize winners and numerous recipients of Pulitzer Prizes, National Medals, and MacArthur Fellows.
4) University of Oxford, UK | Founded in 1096, the legacy university has more than 26,000 students at Oxford, including 12,470 undergraduates and 13,920 postgraduates. The university has drawn students from 160 countries and territories so far.
5) Harvard University, US | Harvard dropped by one position from its previous ranking at the fourth place. Founded in 1636, has grown from being one of the first college in the American colonies to now having 24,596 undergraduate and graduate students and 20,667 faculty and staff in its campus. It’s also interesting to note that eight Harvard alumni signed the Declaration of Independence.
6) University of Cambridge, UK | Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge is made up of 31 constituent Colleges and is the fourth-oldest university in the world. Today, there are 24,912 students and 13113 staff at the university and boasts of 125 Nobel Prize Laureates, 47 Heads of State, 217 Olympic medallists among its alumni and affiliates.
7) ETH Zurich, Switzerland | Founded in 1855, ETH Zurich has more than 20,000 students from over 120 different countries.
8) National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore | NUS is the only Asian university to make it to the top 10 list of QS ranking this year. Started as a modest medical school with just 23 students in 1905, it offers a wide range of courses in arts and social sciences, business, computer and engineering, among others.
9) University College London (UCL), UK | Founded in 1836, University College London claims to be the first university in the world to admit students regardless of their gender, race or religion. In 1878, it became the first UK university to award degrees to women.
10) California Institute of Technology (Caltech), US | Founded as a preparatory and vocational school in 1891, Caltech has grown into one of the most coveted learning institute for tech enthusiasts.
