CNN-News18 reported that Palaniswami does not want either O Panneerselvam, Sasikala or TTV Dinakaran to be reinducted in the alliance.
Reports said the AIADMK leader discussed several issues, including the alleged imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu. AIADMK is a strong force in rural areas and poses a direct challenge to the ruling DMK which is under fire over the law and order situation in the state.
Refuting reports of alliance, Palaniswami told ANI, “There is nothing related to alliance. We came here for issues of people. The media is spreading the news. There is still one year for election.”
Reports said the BJP and AIADMK alliance could pose a tough challenge to the INDIA bloc in the next state polls. The BJP and AIADMK together can take on the ruling alliance over the issue of corruption too. The BJP lacks a strong face in the southern state and is being seen as a Hindi-speaking party. The AIADMK enjoys the legacy of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and is the main opposition party in the state.
AIADMK snapped ties with the BJP in September 2023 following differences with the saffron party’s state leadership. The move came after senior AIADMK leaders called on BJP chief JP Nadda and apprised him about the situation arising out of Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai’s aggressive style of politics.
AIADMK leaders had also sought Annamalai’s apology over his remark on Dravidian stalwart CN Annadurai or that he be replaced. Annamalai has dialled down his criticism of the AIADMK for some time.
