LTIMindtree Ltd. has widened a competency-based assessment for its senior employees as part of the company’s annual performance evaluation. This move, likely a first in India’s IT sector, now impacts key roles such as project leads, managers, and lead architects, according to a report in Livemint.
Under this appraisal framework, half of an employee’s evaluation is based on project performance and the other half depends on a competency exam featuring multiple-choice questions on coding and mathematics.
According to reports, the initiative — titled “My Career My Growth” — was launched last year for top executives and has been expanded to include a wider workforce.
Explaining the My Career My Growth (MCMG), LTIMindtree said in a statement: “MCMG serves as a comprehensive guide to help employees analyse and identify growth opportunities within the organisation.” This, according to the company, establishes clear milestones and provides varied learning opportunities, enabling employees to take charge of their career growth.
“Our performance management process integrates competency-linked goals alongside project-specific goals. We believe both are equally important in assessing the overall annual performance of our talent and as a result, they carry equal weightage,” the statement read.
“We regularly evaluate the competencies of our talent through objective assessments, minimising subjectivity and ensuring they are client-ready. This approach also enables employees to define their career aspirations, identify skill gaps, and follow targeted learning pathways for continuous development in alignment with evolving business needs.”
LTIMindtree implemented an average salary hike of around 4% in October 2023. Typically, the company begins its appraisal cycle in January or February, with salary revisions taking effect in August. The company’s delayed salary hikes last year mirrored similar delays by other IT giants.
LTIMindtree Ltd. shares were trading at ₹2,768.40 as of 9.50 am on Friday, February 28, down 2.26% from the last close on BSE.
