
The high-voltage drama unfolded when opposing councillors began hurling slogans at each other. Congress members were also seen protesting, holding banners and posters demanding an end to what they called interference in the Constitution.
Today’s disruption is the latest in the series of such scenes at the MCD.

Slogans like “BJP murdabad” and “Aam Aadmi Party haaye haaye” echoed across the MCD House, which had convened to finalise the budget for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 financial years as the session is set to end today (March 19).
AAP councillors’ loudly contended that attacks on the Dalit mayor would not be tolerated, while Congress councillors protested with huge banners that read, “Constitution is our identity. Stop killing the Constitution. Have some shame.”
BJP councillors snatched mike, says Mayor KhichiÂ
MCD Mayor Mahesh Khichi accused the BJP councillors of disrupting the Budget Session and snatching the microphone from him. Speaking at a press conference, Khichi stated that the Opposition’s behaviour remained uncooperative, despite it being the concluding day of the Budget Session.

“Opposition councillors stood on the table and tore up the list of key points that were to be discussed in the House,” he said, adding that they have been continuously involved in disrupting proceeding, preventing meaningful discussions for the past two years.
Before the session, Leader of Opposition, BJP’s Raja Iqbal Singh, took a jibe at AAP and Congress and called them “chor chor mausere bhai” (partners in crime). He further alleged that both the parties had taken massive sums of money in the name of Delhi’s development.
Meanwhile, AAP Councillor Shagufta Chaudhary blamed the BJP for repeated disruptions. “AAP has always worked for the welfare of common people. That’s why we had to pass the Bill… There is always a ruckus in the MCD House. Two and a half years have passed like this. BJP has never allowed the House to function properly even once,” she told PTI after the session was adjourned.
