Gradual media exposure
After this, Nishant made a few more media appearances, again speaking cautiously and briefly. Rumours spread that he would formally enter politics after Holi. While no announcement was made on Holi, he was seen meeting people at the CM residence alongside his father. He also met JDU leaders and government officials. Senior party leaders, including Sanjay Jha and Vijay Chaudhary, treated him with importance, signaling his growing political role.
A late start in politics
Now around 50 years old, Nishant has spent years avoiding politics despite his strong political lineage. Younger leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan have already made significant progress in their careers — Tejashwi has been Deputy CM twice, and Chirag has served as a Union minister. Nishant now seems ready to embrace politics but will require training to establish himself. Some JDU leaders are mentoring him on political strategies, News18 Hindi reported.
Political training and guidance
The report said a senior JDU leader is playing a key role in Nishant’s training. Nitish brought this leader into politics from an IAS background. Nishant also discusses his learnings with his father. His progress has been satisfactory, leading to plans for his formal political entry. Within the next three months, he is expected to take on a significant role in JDU.
Nitish’s change of mind
Nitish has long opposed dynastic politics, following the example of his mentor, Karpoori Thakur, who kept his family away from politics. He has criticised Lalu Yadav for promoting family members in politics. However, his behavior on Holi suggested a shift in mindset. Until Nishant’s official entry is announced, it remains unclear if Nitish has fully changed his stance on dynastic politics.
Why Nishant is important
There have been concerns about Nitish’s age and health over the past year. Political rivals like Tejashwi and Prashant Kishore have questioned his ability to govern. While Nitish remains active, signs of aging are visible. JDU needs a leader who is widely accepted within the party, and Nishant is being gradually introduced to fulfil this role.
Nitish’s political strategy
Nitish understands that even if JDU performs poorly in the next election, he will still be crucial in the government formation. If BJP and JDU win a similar number of seats as last time, both BJP and RJD may need JDU’s support. This would allow Nitish to act as a kingmaker again. He might even push for Nishant to be made CM or Deputy CM, forcing BJP or RJD to accept his condition.
