The formal inauguration of the newly constructed state-of-the-art office is scheduled to take place at 11 am on Saturday, July 12. Spanning 60,000 square feet, the seven-storey building will serve as the party’s state headquarters.
The proposal for the new facility, replacing the old Mararji Bhavan, began in 2017, when Shah, the then-BJP national president, launched a campaign to ensure all state units have offices in their names. Following the demolition of the old Mararji Bhavan, the Union Minister laid the foundation stone for the new facility on June 3, 2017.
Although a one-year completion goal was initially set, construction was halted by the pandemic, licensing issues with the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the fire and rescue services.
The new building would be the state’s second-largest party office, following the CPM’s AKG Centre, a nine-story solar-powered structure inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in April.
As per the reports, the overall building cost is estimated to be more than ₹15 crore. The new office is not currently solar-powered, but it does have a rainwater harvesting system and a 2 lakh-litre water storage tank, which is ideal for Kerala’s two monsoon seasons.
Sivankutty, a BJP leader and building committee convener, termed the inauguration as a ‘long-term dream’ coming true for BJP members in Kerala.
“It was in 1999, a trust headed by then BJP president CK Padmanabhan purchased the property from IAS siblings S. Padmakumar and S Krishnakumar’s family. There are rooms for all BJP office-bearers, including five suits for VVIPs, a conference hall with 400 seats, two board rooms, a media room, rooms for state general secretaries and feeder organisation presidents, a library, a help desk, a kitchen and a dining hall,” Sivankutty was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
As Shah left for Kerala on Friday, he wrote on X, “Keen to meet the booth karyakartas of the state. Tomorrow, will inaugurate the Kerala BJP office in Thiruvananthapuram. Will attend the ‘Viksit Keralam Sammelan’ in the afternoon. Looking forward to meeting the people.”

After the inauguration, the Union Minister will address the ‘Viksit Keralam Sammelan’ at Putharikandam Maidanam. In the evening, he will visit Kannur to offer prayer at the well-known Sri Rajarajeshwara Temple in Taliparamba.
His visit to the state takes place at a time when political activities in Kerala are intensifying, with assembly elections scheduled for next year. The next Kerala Legislative Assembly election is set to be held in May 2026. The current term of the Kerala government runs from May 24, 2021, until May 23, 2026.
