With a surge in devotees arriving ahead of Magh Purnima, all secondary schools across boards in Prayagraj will switch to online learning from February 7 to 12, as per an official notification. The District Magistrate directed the District Inspector of Schools to implement the measure, citing potential commuting challenges for students.
While online classes will continue for all students, teachers are required to report to schools as per their schedules to conduct ongoing practical and home examinations.
Meanwhile, the Mahakumbh Mela continues to draw enormous crowds. By 8 pm on Thursday, over 77.20 lakh devotees had taken a holy dip at the Sangam, and since January 13, approximately 40 crore pilgrims have attended the sacred gathering. Magh Purnima, a key occasion of the festival, falls on February 12, 2025.
In a similar move, the Varanasi district administration had earlier instructed schools in urban areas to shift to online classes for students up to Class 8 until Saturday, citing an increased influx of pilgrims. Located 120 km from Prayagraj, Varanasi has also seen a rise in devotees amid the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela.
