Speaking to the Indian community in Boston, the Congress leader raised concerns about the Maharashtra polls and claimed there was “something very wrong with the system.”
Gandhi claimed, “More people voted in the Maharashtra Assembly elections than there are adults in Maharashtra”.
“The Election Commission gave us a voting figure for 5:30 pm, and between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, 65 lakh voters voted. This is physically impossible to happen,” he added.
Adding fuel to the fire, he claimed they were further refused access to the video footage when asked.
“They not only refused but they also changed the law so that now we are not allowed to ask for the videography,” he added.

Several X users criticised the Congress leader for ‘defaming India’ on an international platform.
One said in part, “Rahul Gandhi once again discussing Indian institutions on foreign soil. If EC was compromised, why on Earth would BJP get 240 is beyond my understanding.”
A second user added, “RG Always choose Foreign stage to Defame India.”
“A habitual Liar is spreading misinformation again on foreign soil. He will not tell that the same system allowed his party to win Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal state assembly elections,” another one remarked.
One said, “Rahul Gandhi once again chooses foreign soil to cast doubt on India’s democratic institutions.”
The Election Commission previously rejected claims of manipulated electoral records, describing them as baseless.
They noted that very few appeals or adaptations were made under Sections 22 to 24 of the Representation of People Act during the most recent Special Summary Revision (SSR), which was released in January 2025.
The Special Summary Revision (SSR) is a regular procedure for updating electoral rolls, which makes sure that new voters are included and duplicates or deceased voters are removed.
Despite having more than 13.8 million Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nationwide, officials claimed that only 89 appeals were lodged in Maharashtra.
Sources claimed the final electoral rolls must be regarded as undisputed due to the minimal level of contestation.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pradeep Bhandari reacted to Rahul Gandhi’s critiques of the nation’s electoral process in a foreign country.
“Anti-Democracy, Anti India Rahul Gandhi, who could not win the trust of the Indian electorate, begins to question the Indian democratic process on a foreign soil,” Bhandari said.
