
District collectors in Baran, Anta, Banswara, Kota, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Tonk and Chittorgarh have issued orders for school holidays.
On July 27, Pali, Ajmer, Tonk, and Baran, recorded widespread rainfall on Sunday.
The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur said a well-marked low-pressure area, which had weakened from a depression over Madhya Pradesh, is currently situated over north-central parts of Rajasthan, causing widespread rainfall in the state.
Due to the impact of the low pressure, several districts recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours. Kushalgarh in Banswara reported the highest rainfall of 136 mm.
The MeT centre has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Bharatpur, Kota and Udaipur. Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur divisions are likely to receive heavy showers.
On July 29 and 30, Bharatpur, Jaipur and Ajmer divisions are expected to see spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Bikaner division may experience moderate to heavy rain at a few places, the MeT centre added.
On July 25, seven children were killed after a portion of the Piplodi Government School in Jhalawar district collapsed. The government has announced a series of urgent measures, including closure and demolition of unsafe school buildings, GIS-mapping of all vulnerable structures, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor structural safety.
School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar, who chaired an emergency meeting with senior officials from both departments, said a proposal of ₹150 crore under the disaster management fund has been prepared for repair works in 7,500 schools across 170 tehsils, officials said.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of school infrastructure, especially during the monsoon season in southeastern Rajasthan.
