“Our security forces neutralised more than 100 terrorists during Operation Sindoor,” Shah told Lok Sabha during the debate on the matter.
“In surgical and air strikes, India attacked targets in PoK, which is our land itself, but in Operation Sindoor, targets were 100 km inside Pakistan,” he added.
“Operation Sindoor killed those who sent the terrorists and Operation Mahadev killed those who carried out the attack… I thought that after hearing this news, there would be a wave of happiness in the ruling and the Opposition parties, ‘Magar Syaahi padd gayi inke chehre pe’ (Their faces are smeared with ink)… What kind of politics is this?” Shah said while attacking the Opposition.
The Home Minister further raised questions on the Congress government on not taking action against Pakistan even when India’s footing was strong during the previous wars.

“Yesterday, they (Congress) were raising questions about why there was no war. Today, PoK exists only because of Jawaharlal Nehru. In 1948, Indian armed forces were in decisive position to take back PoK but then PM Nehru declared unilateral ceasefire. In 1960, they gave 80% of the Indus waters to Pakistan,” Shah said.
“In 1971, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered, India had 15,000 sq km Pakistan territory under control, but PoK was not taken back. During the Simla Agreement, they (Congress) forgot about PoK. If they had taken PoK then, we would not have to carry out attacks on camps there now,” he added.
The first week of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament was marred with disruptions and adjournments after the Opposition demanded discussion on Operation Sindoor, Pahalgam terror attack, SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar, among others.
Time and again, the Opposition has raised the issue of United States President Donald Trump taking credit of playing a major role in bringing peace between India and Pakistan and ending the war in May.
India has, however, declined any sort of mediation in the matter while emphasising that the decision to cease the military operations was taken after Pakistan initiated the talks directly.
The government has decided to conduct a 16-hour long debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha each. The debate started on Monday, July 28. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also at the Parliament and is likely to address the House on the matter in the evening of July 29. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is also likely to participate in the debate.
India conducted precision strikes on the terror base camps and sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of May 7 under Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack of April 26 where at least 26 people were gunned down by the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan responded to India’s strikes by using drones and missiles. The conflict escalated and continued till May 10, when the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan initiated a discussion for ceasefire with his Indian counterpart.
A ceasefire ‘understanding’ was reached to stop the firings across the Line of Control (LoC) and halt all military actions across the International Border between India and Pakistan.
