The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) has announced a shutdown of elective services and a conditional shutdown of emergency services from 9 AM on August 1, according to news agency ANI.
The resident doctors at AIIMS-Patna announced the shutdown of services after Chetan Anand, MLA (Sheohar), his wife Dr Ayushi Singh and his armed guards allegedly forcibly entered the hospital area, physically assaulted security staff, threatened resident doctors with death and brandished a firearm within hospital grounds, according to the RDA.

“We emphasise that our decision to halt services has not been taken lightly. We are committed to patient care, but we cannot and will not function under threats to our lives and dignity. Should no appropriate action be taken by the given deadline, the entire responsibility of service disruption and its consequences shall lie with the administration and authorities who failed to ensure safety and justice,” the RDA said.
The doctor’s protest comes a day after the shocking incident of the killing of the two children of an AIIMS-Patna nurse. The two children were burnt alive by miscreants at her home on Thursday (July 31).
The deceased siblings have been identified as Ansh and Anjali, who were found dead at their house in Patna’s Janipur, according to NDTV. The children were identified as the kids of Shobha Devi, a nurse at AIIMS Patna, and Lalan Kumar Gupta, an Election Commission employee.
“We are seriously investigating every angle of the case. The bodies have been sent to the hospital for postmortem,” Sub Inspector Harshvardhan of Janipur Police Station was quoted as saying by ETV Bharat.
Primary investigations indicated that the children were asleep after school when the house was set on fire. However, Lalan Kumar claims that his children were murdered first, and then the house was set on fire to conceal the crime.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and dog squad are analysing the crime site for evidence, according to police. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with this case.
