Gandhi further said that it would be an “open and shut” case against the ECI as the Congress has 100% proof of the body’s work against democracy.
“I have said ‘vote chori’ is happening and now we have open and shut proof that the Election Commission is involved in ‘vote chori’,” Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament, reported news agency PTI.
“I am not saying this lightly. I am saying this with 100% proof. As soon as we release it the whole country would know that EC is indulging in ‘vote chori’. It is doing it for the BJP,” he added.
The Congress leader said that the party suspected of the irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh elections which continued to happen in the Lok Sabha and further into Maharashtra polls, adding that the EC did not work on resolving the concerns raised.

“We believe that vote theft has happened at the state level (in Maharashtra). Voter revision had happened and crores of voters were added. Then we went into detail seeing that the EC is not helping and decided to dig deep into this. We got our own investigation done, it took six months and what we have found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, the EC would have no place to hide in the country,” Gandhi said.
He stated that the officials who are involved in this have gone against India and democratic principles, calling it nothing less than “treason”.
“The people in the EC who are involved in this, right from the top to the bottom, should remember that they will not be spared because they are working against India. This is treason, nothing less than that. You may be retired, you may be anywhere, we will find you,” he remarked.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks hold importance as different states across India are going to hold elections in the coming months. Bihar assembly elections are slated to be held in October-November 2025, while states of West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu are expected to go to polls in the first half of 2026.
Different Opposition parties have also called for a discussion in the ongoing Parliament’s monsoon session on Bihar’s Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise being conducted by the ECI to review the electoral lists in the state.

The Opposition wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to call for a special discussion on the matter without any delay. Demands for the discussion to be held in Rajya Sabha have also been made.
The matter was also heard by the Supreme Court which did not stay the EC’s exercise in the state, saying that it will hear the matter if irregularities are put forward before the bench. The next hearing on the matter is scheduled to be held on August 12.
