
“In view of the continuous rainfall since morning & considering the safety of students, the Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Shri Bhushan Gagrani has declared a holiday today… for all schools & colleges scheduled to function in the second session, i.e. after 12 noon,” BMC said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
The local body also urged the citizens against going outdoors unless it is essential. “Citizens are urged to step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary,” it said.
The civic body also urged the citizens to call at 1916 in case of any need assistance or official information needed by. the netizens. “For assistance or official information, citizens may please contact the main Control Room of the BMC on the helpline number 1916,” it said on X.

IMD issues red alert for Mumbai, surrounding areas
The India Meteorological Department issued red alerts for several regions including Mumbai, Thane and Raigad for August 18 and 19.

BMC asked the citizens to take precautions before leaving their homes, advising they should only step out only if it is “absolutely necessary”.
