
Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi, AAP) | In March 2024, the sitting Chief Minister of Delhi was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI for alleged violations in the Delhi Excise Policy case. He spent approximately five months in jail, receiving interim bail for 15 days to contest the Lok Sabha elections. After being granted bail in September 2024, he resigned as Chief Minister.
Manish Sisodia (Delhi, AAP) | Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in February 2023 by the CBI and later the ED in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case under the PMLA and Prevention of Corruption Act. He spent around 17 months in custody and resigned shortly after arrest. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in August 2024.
Satyendar Jain (Delhi, AAP) | AAP leader Satyendar Jain was arrested in May 2022 by the ED over money laundering allegations under the PMLA. He spent approximately 18 months in jail, remaining a minister for nine months during this period. V Senthil Balaji (Tamil Nadu, DMK) | DMK minister Senthil Balaji was arrested in June 2023 on money laundering charges linked to alleged bribes for jobs during his tenure as Transport Minister under the AIADMK government. He spent 15 months in judicial custody and underwent bypass surgery during this period. He was granted bail in September 2024.
Nawab Malik (Maharashtra, NCP) | Former Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik was arrested in February 2022 by the ED for money laundering under the PMLA, in a case linked to gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Anil Deshmukh (Maharashtra, NCP) | Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was arrested in November 2021 in connection with corruption and money laundering charges. Shibu Soren (Jharkhand, JMM) | Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren was arrested in March 2021 in a coal scam case. He spent approximately six months in jail, was released on bail, and resumed his political activities.
DK Shivakumar (Karnataka, Congress) | Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was arrested in September 2019, in a money laundering case filed by the ED. He spent about 50 days in Tihar Jail before being granted bail by the Delhi High Court. The Supreme Court later dismissed the case in March 2024.
