“Dhankhar Sahab’s resignation letter is self-explanatory. He resigned citing his health conditions, and he also thanked ministers, the Prime Minister and all the members from his heart for his good tenure,” Shah said in an interview with news agency ANI aired on August 25.
On being asked whether the government pressurised Dhankhar to resign, the Home Minister refuted the claims.

Former VP Dhankhar resigned late evening on July 21, on the first day of the Parliament’s monsoon session. He cited prioritising his health on medical advice as the reason for his resignation.
The Opposition questioned the timing of the resignation, stating that the former VP did not look unhealthy during the session, and claimed that there was a conspiracy behind his actions with him being forced by the government to tender his resignation.
Opposition had said that Dhankhar wanted to begin the impeachment process for the Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma in the Rajya Sabha.

When asked where Dhankhar is right now – whether he is under a house arrest – and his alleged “coup” attempt, Shah denied the claims, saying, “No, there is nothing like that. ‘Baat ka batangad nhi banana chahiye’ (We should not make a fuss about it).”
“Dhankhar ji was on a constitutional post and during his tenure, he did good work according to the constitution. He has resigned due to his personal health problem. One should not try to stretch the issue too much and find something,” Shah added.

New VP candidate by NDAÂ
On being questioned that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) picked CP Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate because the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to win in the Tamil Nadu elections slated for 2026, Shah said, “It is not like that… Such questions would be raised no matter where the candidate is picked from.”
“It is natural for the Vice Presidential candidate to come from the South because the President was from the East, the Prime Minister was from the West and the North,” he added.
“It should not be seen from this perspective. CP Radhakrishnan has had a very long political career. He has been a member of Parliament twice, the President of our party, Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, Pondicherry, Maharashtra. And he holds a mature experience in politics,” Shah further said.

Shah declined Radhakrishnan’s history of being connected with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) by saying, “The Prime Minister has a connection with RSS, I also have a connection with RSS. Has the country chosen us because we are from RSS? Is having connection with RSS a minus point? Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, PM Modi are also connected with RSS.”

Shah questions INDIA alliance’s VP candidate
Shah said that the leftist ideology of Opposition’s VP candidate former Supreme Court Justice Sudershan Reddy, could have been the INDIA alliance’s reason to pick him as the candidate.
“This is a Supreme Court’s record that he rejected Salwa Judum and ended the right of self-defence of tribals. Because of this, Naxalism lasted for more than two decades in this country. At that time, Naxalism was breathing its last,” Shah said.
“The tribals formed Salwa Judum to protect themselves. The Supreme Court rejected it. After this, the schools that were destroyed due to Naxalites, CRPF and security forces were present in those schools. They threw everyone out overnight by issuing an order. There were attacks on security forces at many places. Rahul Gandhi should answer these two judgments more than Sudershan Reddy,” Shah told ANI.
