The order issued on Monday, September 8, followed months of friction between Sathya and the leadership, reported news agency ANI. His actions were alleged to have weakened party unity and violated rules.
The disciplinary committee found Sathya guilty under Sections 19, 35 and 41 of the party constitution, leading to his permanent removal from membership.
Vaiko’s letter noted that Sathya had ignored repeated warnings and “continued to engage in conduct against the interests of the party.”
He was also accused of misusing his position and issuing public statements that harmed the party’s image. According to the order, Sathya has been asked to return all party documents and assets immediately.

Sathya had earlier dismissed the charges as baseless and defamatory. He argued that he had never acted against the MDMK’s interests and pointed to his past contributions, including representing the party internationally, as proof of his loyalty, as per ANI.
The escalating rift in the partyÂ
The internal conflict reportedly began in early 2025 when some of Sathya’s social media posts were viewed as critical of the party leadership.
In April, the Tiruchy urban unit labelled his a “traitor” and demanded his ouster. By mid 2025, Vaiko had publicly accused him of anti-party conduct spanning two years, including alleged collaboration with external critics.
In August, Sathya was suspended temporarily and served with a show-cause notice under Rule 35(6) of the party constitution. He was barred from using party symbols and assets until an explanation was provided, as per ANI.
Observers also note that the rift also highlights an underlying generational and ideological transition within MDMK, as Vaiko’s son, Durai Vaiko, increasingly assumes a larger role in party affairs.
