NEW DELHI: Gujarat have recovered the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) from the wreckage of the Air India Dreamliner that crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing 265 people on board. The FDR, a crucial component in crash investigations, is designed to store technical data from an aircraft’s systems, helping investigators understand the sequence of events leading to an incident. The Boeing 787-8, operating as Air India flight AI-171 to London Gatwick, had 241 people on board, including 12 crew members. According to Air India, all but one passenger perished in the crash, making it one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site on Friday and later chaired a high-level review meeting at Ahmedabad airport. Visuals released by the Prime Minister’s Office showed him being briefed by senior officials on the initial findings and response efforts. In a post on social media platform X, Mr Modi wrote: “Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy.” Authorities have begun DNA sampling at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad to identify the victims, many of whom were burned beyond recognition.
