In a recent conversation with tech YouTuber Sajjad Khade, Nadella stated that while AI tools are increasingly automating coding and other complex tasks, success in this evolving landscape depends heavily on strong computational thinking and system design skills.
“Just getting real fundamentals of software (if you’re a software engineer), I think matters a lot,” Nadella said. He highlighted the importance of breaking down problems logically and designing structured solutions, skills that AI cannot replace. “Having the ability to think computationally is important.”
Nadella also noted that AI is speeding up the path to becoming a software architect. “All of us are going to be more software architects,” he added, pointing to a future where understanding systems at a high level will be crucial.
This perspective aligns with Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s views, who also stresses AI as a tool to augment human creativity rather than replace jobs. Both tech leaders highlight that while AI can handle routine coding, human expertise remains vital to guide and innovate.
Nadella illustrated the practical side of AI integration by sharing how Microsoft’s AI-powered coding assistant, CoPilot, helped him fix a complex bug — demonstrating the synergy between human thinking and AI execution.
