
Director Ashwath Marimuthu, celebrated for his work on ‘Oh My Kadavule’ and ‘Dragon,’ recently discussed his upcoming project with Rajinikanth. He revealed that he’d spoken with Rajinikanth about his next film and was subsequently offered the chance to direct the film he’d originally proposed to the legendary actor. As the film did not materialize, Ashwath expressed that it was an important project for him and even getting a chance to narrate a story to Rajinikanth was a big moment in his career.
Rajinikanth appreciates Ashwath Marimuthu
In a chat with Touring Talkies, Ashwath said, “Rajini sir called me after watching ‘Dragon’ and appreciated many aspects of the film.” During that meeting, Rajinikanth asked if he had a story. “I told him I had one, but I already had commitments,” he said. Later, when he got time, he prepared a story for the star. “I narrated the story, and he liked it a lot. He heard the story without moving and even skipped his food,” Ashwath shared. He added, “He said the story was very good and especially praised the villain role.”

Even though everything seemed to fall into place, the project did not move forward. Ashwath explained, “Everything was going well, but due to some reasons, it did not happen.” However, Rajinikanth gave him encouraging words. “He told me to keep the story safe and said it would suit someone like him or Kamal Haasan,” Ashwath revealed. He also shared, “He even called Raj Kamal Films and spoke about my story.” For Ashwath, this recognition meant a lot. “The fact that he liked my narration itself is a big happiness for me,” he said.
Ashwath praises Rajinikanth’s humility and respect for directors
Ashwath also spoke about Rajinikanth’s humble nature. “I told him on Sunday that the story was ready, and by Monday morning, he gave me time,” he said. He added, “When I reached early, he was already there waiting.” Recalling another moment, Ashwath said, “He had an important meeting but still said sorry for making me wait.” He continued, “He even sent his manager to apologize again and later said sorry multiple times.” Ashwath concluded, “At that moment, I understood why he is still a superstar even at 75.”Ashwath Marimuthu has locked his next with Silambarasan, and the film’s pre-production work is happening steadily. Reported to be a romantic drama, Silambarasan will be sporting a different look for the film, tentatively titled ‘STR51.’
