About 17.87% voter turnout was recorded in Assam Assembly Elections 2026 as of 9 am, according to the Election Commission’s ECINET mobile application.
The voting began at 7 am across 126 constituencies in the northeastern state on Thursday, April 9.
The poll is being seen as contest between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led opposition alliance.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma looks to return for a third straight term in the state. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi is leading the the opposition campaign.

Regional parties such as the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Raijor Dal, and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) are also expected to influence the outcome in several constituencies.
Assam has about 2.5 crore registered voters casting votes across over 31,000 polling booths.
