The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, January 12, confirmed that Nitin Nabin is the only candidate in the fray for the party’s national president’s post after the conclusion of the nomination process at the party headquarters in Delhi.
Nabin, 45, who currently serves as the party’s national working president, received 37 valid sets of nomination papers, making him the sole name officially presented for consideration by the returning officer.
Of these, 36 were filed by representatives from states and union territories, and one was submitted by the BJP’s National Council and Parliamentary Party with endorsements from senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and outgoing president JP Nadda.
Congratulating Nabin, Prime Minister Modi took to X, “Met BJP National Working President Shri Nitin Nabin Ji. Congratulated him on his new responsibility and wished him the very best in his endeavours to strengthen the Party at the grassroots. I am confident that his organisational and administrative experience will be an asset for our Party as we all work together to fulfil people’s aspirations.”
With no other contender filing nominations, Nabin is now poised to be elected unopposed as the BJP’s 12th national president, signalling a generational shift in the party’s organisational leadership.
The formal declaration is expected on Tuesday morning, (January 20) in an event at the party headquarters that PM Modi is expected to attend.
