The inaugural run of the metro was conducted from the Patliputra Bus Depot. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were also present at the ceremony. In February 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the metro project, estimated to cost ₹ 13,365 crores.
Hailing the project earlier in the day, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal said that the people will be relieved of traffic jams. In a conversation with ANI, he said, “Today will be written in golden letters in the history of Patna that the people of Patna, the people of Bihar, are getting the facility of Metro Rail. Until now, we used to go to Kolkata and Delhi to see the Metro Rail. People will be relieved of the problem of traffic jams.”
JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Prasad also lauded the project, saying CM Nitish Kumar has taken ‘big decisions’ for the state. “The long wait of the people of Patna is about to end. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, undoubtedly, big decisions have been taken for the state,” Prasad added.

The metro service runs daily from 8 am to 10 pm, with 40 to 42 trips scheduled along the corridor. In the initial phase, trains are scheduled to run every 20 minutes.
