The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday, October 12, announced the final seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
As per the formula, BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) gets 29 seats. Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest six seats each. This marks the first time in Bihar polls history that the BJP and JD(U) are contesting the same number of seats in an alliance.

The seat-sharing deal follows extensive deliberations in Delhi and Patna involving senior NDA leaders, including BJP election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan, Vinod Tawde, and Nityanand Rai, as well as interactions with LJP, RLM, and HAM leadership. LJP chief Chirag Paswan, who had initially demanded 40 seats, agreed to the reduced share of 29 seats.

Speaking to party cadres, Paswan said, according to CNN-News18 sources, “We stand firmly with the NDA. There is a need to strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s hands for Bihar’s welfare.”
A BJP core committee meeting chaired by party president JP Nadda is ongoing in Delhi to finalise candidate names. The first joint NDA candidate list is expected on October 13.
The 243-member Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases, with polling on November 6 and 11, and counting scheduled for November 14.
Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan, comprising RJD, Congress, Left parties, and VIP, has yet to finalise its seat-sharing arrangement.
