
Coimbatore: BJP is fielding Vanathi Srinivasan, 55, in Coimbatore North constituency for the April 23 assembly election while Congress has named K P Surya Prakash,27, and V Shrinithi Mohan, 37, as its candidates Kavundampalayam and Singanallur, respectively. Both the parties released their candidates list on Friday. Vanathi, the sitting MLA of Coimbatore South, is the national president of the BJP women’s wing. She contested in the Coimbatore South constituency in 2016 and 2021. She won in 2021 by defeating actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan.
While BJP is fielding an experienced hand in the city seat allotted to it in the AIADMK-led alliance, Congress has opted for two young faces in the two constituencies allotted to it here in the DMK-led alliance.
K P Surya Prakash and V Shrinithi MohanSurya Prakash, the state president of Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, is Congress’s choice in Kavundampalayam constituency. Earlier, he had held different posts in the party, including as block in-charge of Coimbatore Corporation Youth Congress. Shrinithi Mohan, the national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), began her political career with BJP. In 2021, she joined the Makkal Needhi Maiam and contested in the Udumalet constituency in the same year. In 2022, she joined the Congress and was appointed the national secretary of IYC in 2025.
