The Lok Sabha passed 16 Bills and the House productivity was pegged at over 118% in the Budget Session. The productivity of the Rajya Sabha stood at 119%.
The first part of the session concluded on February 13. The second part, which began on March 10, concluded on April 4.
Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, were among the key Bills passed in this session.
“The productivity of this session stood at 119%. On April 3, 2025, the Rajya Sabha began proceedings and etched its name in the annals of legislative history with an unprecedented sitting from 11 am on that day until 4.02 am the following day, ie, this day, the longest in its history,” Dhankhar said.
He added, “This would send a very great message to the people at large and enhance belief in this great institution.”
Before adjourning the House sine die, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chided former Congress president Sonia Gandhi over her Waqf (Amendment) Bill was “bulldozed through” remarks, and said a senior member casting aspersions on the House proceedings was “most unfortunate” as well as against the dignity of parliamentary democracy.
Birla pointed out that on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Lower House had a debate for 13 hours and 53 minutes in which several members of various parties participated.
“There was division thrice on the bill, and it was passed as per the rules of the House. That is why it is highly unfortunate that despite the House sitting till late night and passing the bill after a long debate, a senior member is casting aspersions on the House proceedings which is inappropriate,” Birla said.
“It is not in accordance with the dignity of parliamentary democracy,” he said.
