
The by-elections for two seats in Gujarat – Visavadar and Kadi assembly seats – and one each in Punjab (Ludhiana West), Bengal (Kaliganj), and Kerala (Nilambur) were held on June 19. The Nilambur seat had the highest polling percentage (73.26%), while Ludhiana West had the lowest (51.33%). Kadi saw a voter turnout of 54.49 %, while Visavadar recorded 54.61 % and Kaliganj at 69.89 %.
Bypoll Result 2025: Who is in the lead?
According to the Election Commission (EC), BJP candidate Rajendra Kumar is leading in the Kadi Seat in Gujarat with more than 29,800 votes, while Congress’s Rameshbhai Chavda is trailing.
In Visavadar, AAP’s Gopal Italia is now trailing behind BJP’s Kirit Patel by 985 votes after the 7th round of counting. The Congress’ candidate Nitin Ranpariya trails in the third position.
Alifa Ahmed, the TMC candidate in Kaliganj, leads by 7,464 votes after the third round, according to trends. So far, she has received more than 13,700 votes.
UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath is leading in the Nilambur seat in Kerala with more than 35,830 votes after the ninth round.
Sanjeev Arora of the AAP leads in Punjab’s Ludhiana West seat, while the Congress is trailing.
Why were bypolls held?
In Visavadar, the byelection was held after sitting AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani switched to the BJP, leaving the seat vacant. The by-elections were held for the Kadi seat due to the death of BJP MLA Karshan Solanki.
The by-election in Kerala’s Nilambur was called in response to the resignation of CPI(M)-backed Independent legislator PV Anvar.
Due to the death of TMC leader Nasiruddin Ahmed, the Kaliganj district in West Bengal voted again.
In Punjab’s Ludhiana West constituency, byelections were held following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.
