IMD forecasts more heavy rain
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rain over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts until early Thursday afternoon. The system — now a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal after weakening from a depression — continues to bring steady rain to coastal and interior pockets.
Interior districts such as Villupuram, Cuddalore and Tiruvannamalai have also reported repeated spells of heavy rain.
University of Madras postpones exams
The University of Madras has postponed all UG, PG and professional degree theory exams scheduled for Wednesday due to the rainfall. Registrar Prof. Rita John said revised dates will be announced soon. No update has been issued yet regarding Thursday’s examinations.
Transport, livelihoods disrupted
Persistent rainfall has led to waterlogging on arterial stretches, slowing traffic and hampering daily movement. Small traders and daily-wage workers have been hit particularly hard, with many unable to operate due to flooding and reduced footfall. Authorities have urged residents to avoid waterlogged roads and adhere to safety advisories.
