
The BSE Sensex rose 1,205 points to close at 75,273, with 26 of its 30 constituents ending in the green. The Nifty 50 gained 394 points to settle at 23,306, holding above the 23,300 mark.
Heavyweights including HDFC Bank, Larsen & Toubro and State Bank of India were among the top contributors to the Nifty’s gains.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 1,244 points to 55,331, while the advance-decline ratio on the National Stock Exchange of India stood at a strong 3:1, indicating firm market breadth.
Sectorally, all indices closed in the green, led by consumer durables. Gains were also seen across realty, metals, oil & gas, banking and capital goods stocks.
Among key movers,Puravankara Limited rose 5% after outlining a ₹55,000 crore project pipeline. Oil marketing companies including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation gained up to 2% as Brent crude slipped below $100 per barrel.
RPSG Ventures surged 20% following the sale of Royal Challengers Bangalore for over ₹16,000 crore by United Spirits. Sagility India gained 7% after a ‘buy’ initiation by Nomura, while Avantel Limited rose over 7% on a ₹460 crore order win.
Among Nifty gainers, Shriram Finance, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Grasim Industries and Larsen & Toubro led the advances. In the midcap space, Balkrishna Industries, Kalyan Jewellers,PI Industries and Muthoot Finance were among the top gainers.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee hit a record low of 93.98 against the US dollar during the session, even as equity markets remained resilient.
