BESS is emerging as a reliable and efficient technology to address the energy transition requirements of key industries such as manufacturing, data centres, commercial realty and mining, the company said.
These systems enable seamless integration of clean, renewable and intermittent energy sources such as solar and wind with the existing power infrastructure. This ensures customers can maximise renewable energy use and optimise energy costs through peak shaving and energy shifting, it added.
The new BESS units are not direct replacements for gensets. They bring fresh value to the table as they complement its existing genset offerings. It also expands its sustainable solutions portfolio.
Key features of Cummins BESS
BESS is a technology that stores electrical energy in batteries for later use. It can be charged from various sources such as the grid or renewable energy sources like solar and wind. It then discharges the stored energy when required.
Modular and scalable designs: Cummins said its BESS products are available in two 10 feet and 20 feet containers delivering energy outputs ranging from 200 kWh to 2 MWh. The system features an optimised footprint with high energy density and complete AC output integration that can be easily scaled to meet varied energy requirements.
Advanced battery technology: Built on lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) batteries, which are known for cycle life, safety and reduced risk of thermal runaway, it said.
Efficient thermal management: An integrated liquid cooling system ensures optimal battery temperature improving performance and extending battery life.
Global safety certifications: Cummins said its BESS is certified to meet the world’s most stringent operational and safety standards and is equipped with a comprehensive three-tier fire safety system.
Plug-and-play functionality: The products are fully self-contained with plug-and-play functionality for easy transportation, quick installation and flexible deployment.
The company’s managing director Shveta Arya said that BESS offers a reliable, scalable and sustainable foundation for the energy ecosystem of tomorrow.
