Madras University exams postponed
The University of Madras has postponed all UG, PG and professional degree theory exams scheduled for today. In a notification issued by Registrar Professor Rita John, the university said fresh dates will be announced soon. Students appearing for the November 2025 examinations have been advised to follow official updates.
Alerts issued in western, southern districts
For December 4, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain. A yellow alert is in place for Salem, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. No significant rain is expected in other parts of the state.
The ongoing spell is linked to the weakened deep depression associated with Cyclone Ditwah over the Bay of Bengal, which continues to move toward the Chennai–Puducherry coast, triggering intermittent showers across several districts.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents to exercise caution.
