The remarks come amid continuous claims raised by Congress member and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over vote theft and manipulation of voter lists by the poll body for the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“The law for “one person one vote” is already in existence since the first elections in 1951-52,” the EC said in a statement, reported news agency PTI.
“If anyone has any proof of any person actually voting twice in any election, it should be shared with ECI with a written affidavit rather than colouring all the electors of India as ‘chor’ without any proof,” it added.
The Election body stated that by creating a false narrative by using “dirty phrases” like “vote chori” for the country’s electors is a direct attack on the crores of Indians along with on the integrity of lakhs of election staff and personnel.

Remarks on Gandhi’s claims

The former Congress president said that this vote left led to the defeat of his party’s candidate from the seat.
Following, the claims, the election commission had directed Gandhi to file a written complaint along with a declaration on his claims.
